Don't believe the bad press
There is a lot of bad press concerning these payday loans right now. I think it's like with everything else, you have to use your common sense before deciding to take the loan. If you're not certain you can pay it back, don't take it!
For me, a payday loan was a great way to be able to afford a few things that needed fixing around the house. Without it, I would have to save up money for several months first - something that can't be practically done for urgent needs. There are literally hundreds of different payday loans out there. I went with Americas Banker Direct because they seemed nice when I talked to them on the phone, and they weren't "pushy" like a lot of the other companies seem to be. My rating: A+

I've used these guys as well, with a similar experience. I probably could have managed without taking a loan though, but live & learn right?
